Why The Subscription Model Is Better Than A One-Time Payment Model // John Warrillow

There are software businesses that sometimes have a one-time payment business model as opposed to a recurring, monthly subscription payment model. But your company is going to be worth more if it’s on a SaaS or recurring model.

Even though you might be getting the same in terms of lifetime value from a one-time payment vs. an ongoing monthly membership, you are going to get a much bigger multiple for your company. A well-run SaaS business will lengthen the lifetime value of a customer since you are always interacting with that customer.

Today we are talking with John Warrillow who has written three books -  Built To Sell, The Automatic Customer, and The Art Of Selling Your Business. These books cover the basics of how to design your company so that it can be sold in the future, generating revenue from your business, and how to finally make that exit happen. During our chat today we talked about how to set up your business, why you want to have recurring payments as opposed to a lifetime offer, and how to build a business to potentially scale and exit if it’s built on the back of an influencer or personal brands.

We cover a lot of ground in this episode and this is a great conversation for our listeners because a lot of folks are building fan bases, thinking about the marketing side of it, and building traffic to them. This is a great conversation to consider what makes up the value of your business, regardless of whether you are going to sell or not.

“You should focus on branding products in your overall business. So there’s this concept of service providers, coaches and consultants productizing, and it’s the process of making your service look like a thing, ideally making it run as its own entity on an automatic or recurring revenue cycle.” - John Warrillow

About Hustle and Flowchart:

Joe Fier & Matt Wolfe are the co-founders of Evergreen Profits and absolutely LOVE showing people how simple it really is to get seen online in competitive industries. They get pumped up to share their system of driving targeted traffic that turns into leads and sales to business owners who want to scale (but have failed in the past). They aren't an agency (they're pretty much the anti-agency).

They started in business together 13 years ago and haven't stopped learning, testing, and scaling since.

They also started their podcasting career in 2010 and it's been their passion ever since. Now they have a fast growing digital marketing podcast called Hustle and Flowchart. It gives listeners an opportunity to learn uncommon ways to live and work that allow for a happier and more profitable life.

Today, Matt & Joe focus on growing their show, putting a ton of free value into the world, and investing and advising in digital businesses and podcasts.
