Escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula are adding volatility to the local markets that are already hit by concerns about the global economy.
Seoul shares began trading more than 2－percent lower on this Friday on heightened geopolitical risk as well as deep losses in offshore markets.
As of 11：50 a.m. Korea time， the benchmark KOSPI was trading at 1－thousand－8－hundred－81－point－5－6， down more than 1－point－7 percent， but recovering from a session low of 18－56－point－9.
South Korea′s financial authorities are calling for calm， however， pledging to help stabilize the markets if needed.
Around the world， global markets ended lower overnight on renewed fears over the health of the global economy.
Wall Street was hammered with the S＆P 500 ending at a more－than－six－month low and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at 16，990 － the lowest level since October.
The Nasdaq 100 also retreated 2.8 percent.
European markets also closed in the red， extending their recent losses.
