Muharram is the second holiest month after Ramadan, but is not celebrated like other holy festivals. Muharam is a festival of mourning and a period of self-reflection. Muharram marks the anniversary of the battle of Karbala, where the Islamic prophet Muhammad's grandson Imam Hussain Ibn Ali was killed.
