Video documentation of the UPLB Museum of Natural History Biodiversity Seminar on "True bugs of Central European saline grasslands" by Jelena Šeat of HabiProt, Novi Sad, Serbia and PhD Student, Department of Ecology, Faculty of Science and Informatics , University of Szeged, Hungary on 21 April 2022.

ABSTRACT OF TALK

Saline habitats of the Pannonian Region form the most continuous inland salt-affected landscape in Europe. They are listed in Annex I of the Habitats Directive (1530 *Pannonic salt steppes and salt marshes) as areas of high conservation importance due to their restricted geographic distribution and characteristic taxa that cannot be found anywhere else on the continent. The uniqueness of saline grasslands is its vegetation with around 50 distinct plant communities and characteristic species. European terrestrial true bugs are predominantly phytophagous with great species richness in grasslands and other open grassy habitats. The different degrees of specialization of true bug herbivores make them sensitive to any change in vegetation composition, structure or quality, which is why these insects are considered good model organisms in assessments of grassland management, landscape heterogeneity and habitat quality.
