Set in the fashion-and-feminism influenced world of 1997, comedy Beattie & Mae follows two sisters who find themselves recruited by a competitive direct-sales cosmetics company.

Synopsis: Beattie and Mae are 20-something sisters who were born and raised in small-town Ontario – but got to the big city as fast as they could… or at least, “after they had no more options”.

When Mae suffers a hometown heartbreak, Beattie uses it as an excuse to move both of them to Toronto, where she’s sure they’ll soak up the glamour of being young and single in 1997 Toronto. But of course, wide-eyed wanderer Beattie’s dream is buttoned-up Mae’s nightmare... it’s just as scary as the basement apartment they’re renting for how much money!?
Soon Beattie finds the perfect solution. She and Mae can claim their independence as representatives for Honey Rose, a direct-sales cosmetics company that will make all their dreams come true… just as soon as they pay a commission to their team boss, Christie and her boss, and the Regional Vice President of Honey Rose. If all those women have made it, Beattie and Mae definitely can… right after they buy a ‘starter kit’ of products and learn the basics of hosting a ‘foot-washing party’ that will see money, fame, and matching team jackets flowing through their doors any day now.

But while Beattie’s sure success is coming soon (like, next Thursday) Mae thinks they’re making a mistake that gets worse with every move. Neither of them expects to find out Honey Rose has a dark side scarier than the business end of a Honey Rose Pore-Plunger nose strip – but both of them know they’re in too deep to back out now… right?

A love letter to the late 90s, Beattie & Mae takes on Tae-Bo, Thai food, skinny eyebrows and chunky-soled shoes, as two young women take baby steps into business, feminism, and discovering who they are, and who they could become.
