Thermosetting carbon fiber composites use thermosetting resins. Due to the molecular reasons of thermosetting resins, the thermosetting carbon fiber composites after molding have strong cross-linking properties, forming very stable composite materials, which are used in many an area.

The thermoplastic carbon fiber composite material uses thermoplastic resin, such as nylon, polyphenylene sulfide, polyether ether ketone, etc. Such thermoplastic resin is impregnated with carbon fiber tow after the temperature exceeds the melting stability, and then cooled and formed. Such a composite material has good high-temperature resistance and a convenient price, but the molding process at this stage is difficult, so the price is relatively expensive.

The main difference between them is that the resins are different. The main performance is that the properties brought by different resins are different, such as friction resistance, toughness, and corrosion resistance. The strength capability is very high, much higher than that of traditional metal materials.

Another very important difference is the thermoplastic carbon fiber composite material. Because of the resin, this material has the performance of recyclability, which is a very important difference.

On the whole, both are representatives of high-performance composite materials, with high market application performance, and there is no argument that who will ban who. At least at this stage, there is no market for banning. At this stage, thermosetting carbon fiber is still used. Mainly, thermoplastic carbon fiber is more used in high-end industries such as aerospace and medical.
