Join us for a discussion of the SBA's final rule creating a new mentor protégé program for all small businesses. The new rule establishes a small business mentor-protégé program to include Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses, Woman-Owned Small Businesses, HUBZones, SBCs, and all eligible small businesses.


This new rule:

Establishes eligibility criteria and makes the SBA’s rules consistent across both the new mentor-protégé program and the established 8(a) mentor-protégé program
Revises joint venture rules and establishes new certification requirements for joint ventures
Addresses other agency mentor-protégé programs
Requires that agencies consider the past performance and capabilities of joint venturers
Requires recertification when an affiliate acquires another concern

The regulation will go into effect on August 24, 2016 and will offer competitive advantages to firms that participate in the new mentor-protégé program. Firms in the government contracting space need to be aware of the new rule as they are certain to impact future procurements, contract awards and protests.
