The Story of Emily is an incredible immersive historical experience in St Ive, Cornwall. It shines the light on the heroic efforts of one of Britain’s most extraordinary yet largely forgotten women in history, Emily Hobhouse.

More than just a museum, The Story of Emily War Rooms use cutting-edge technology and carefully curated displays to bring the remarkable life of pioneering Emily into the digital age. Dynamic storytelling is woven with historical narrative, artefacts, and photography, to vividly capture Hobhouse’s profound contribution to humanity, standing up against the Empire to alleviate suffering in British concentration camps during the Anglo-Boer War.

This truly exceptional immersion is a multi-sensory, theatrical journey that redefines how history can be taught: it needs to be seen to be believed. The set design, special effects, powerful narration, and very personal delivery (through headphones and a VR set) subtly evoke the visitor's emotions, bringing Emily’s untold story to life before their eyes.

The experience, which lasts approximately 45 minutes, leads through 24 connected, continuous rooms, as the visitor follows both the story of Emily, and the experiences of the women and children caught up in the war. It prompts you to think about war of all kinds and its profound impact on people.
