2011 DESCRIPTION
================
Directing and producing this film was a long and arduous journey. The project encountered many conflicts, setbacks, and back office drama that delayed development and pushed the film off course. Determined as I was, I established a fundraiser in late 2010 to raise money to pay for an animation studio to complete a one minute scene from the script. Unfortunately, due to my so called "questionable" track record amongst the hostile sonic community, it received negative support and yielded a $300 budget. The result, was not exactly what I envisioned but after nearly six years of struggle, I was grateful that I at least accomplished "something" from this ambitious endeavor.
About the scene. The animation was helmed by Damian Ciancio and the talented crew at Linterna Magica; a studio in Argentina responsible for "Los Pintin: Al Rescate" and various small projects contracted by Disney, Filmax, and Patagonik. The scene was digitally hand drawn on a tablet and produced through After Effects. Music Score and Sound Effects was composed by Andrew Keene; an aspiring young musician that showcased a professional demeanor and devotion towards the Sonic franchise. The piece heard in this scene, is compromised of a more ominous take on Final Zone (Sonic 3 & Knuckles) that transitions into Metallic Madness (Sonic CD US ver). Character Voices volunteered by the humble cast of The Voice Actors Alliance. Sound Mixing, Editing and Visual Effects provided by Richard Kuta.
Due to funding issues, there are no plans to continue the project, but we're not ruling out the possibility of something surfacing in the future. Overall, the concept for an official Sonic movie has always existed, and if one was ever produced, it should deliver an endearing experience for all fans to enjoy. To put a capstone on this six year endeavor, we want to extend our appreciation for everyone's assistance that brought this fun little project to life and to the passion they conveyed for the speedy blue hedgehog that has raced across a platform of media for over twenty years.
2013 COMMENTARY
=================
Two years has past and many a Sonic fans and such have exhausted their mixed opinions on this preview. It was the subject of ridicule and even spawned a couple memes. Some of which I found kinda hilarious. But in retrospect, you start to realize that the person from years past may have had some delusions of grandeur and a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Not to say that the ambition and dedication wasn't present, but the execution of certain parts of the film could've been addressed better. In otherwords, I do agree with the majority of the criticism. The animation and voice acting definitely needed refining. No disrespect to those that contributed, but I really should've scouted more.
With the dentalfloss budget I had to work with, it was difficult to shop around for quality animation studios and the one I landed on was very generous enough to at least accomplish my goal of getting "something" completed after the half decade struggle. In hindsight, I was so wrapped up in hyping this little preview to where I even promised Don Bluth style of animation. Its obviously not up to that standard, especially since some of the animators didnt exactly follow the character model sheets that were relayed to them. However, I was elated to finally see part of my vision come to fruition. If my finances at the time were more stable and disposable, I would be relentless in my search for top tier actors and animation studios. As for the script and dialogue, I admit couldve been modified to fit the overall intended scope of the concept instead of implementing hollywood cliches to drive a general audience.
I guess what I shouldve really concentrated on was making a bare bones SatAM Movie instead of cramming elements from other aspects of the franchise. The main problem is that I shouldve made a film that was self-gratifying instead of worrying about what the diverse fanbase thought. While the script was being composed, it was intended to be a Hollywood feature and recall being instructed by agents and producers during my pitches to remove certain characters and change a few story elements around, so the story catered to a wider audience. Honestly, after all the tampering and having these H-wood execs stir turds into the stew, it really should've been left as a fan film based on SatAM since that was the passion from the start. What's depressing is that the film could've been genuinely good if the attitudes on both parties at the time were less aberrant. Plus the original 2005 script was completely different.
