In this video I discuss the large variety of inflation measurements currently in use in the USA as well as historical measurements of inflation. A brief history of the gold standard is covered followed by a review of recent increases in the various measurements of the money supply in the USA (Monetary Base, M1, M2). Multiple versions of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) are discussed as is the relatively new Personal Consumption Index (PCE). The Federal Reserve now considers the PCE their favorite measurement of inflation. How the various inflation measurements have changed during recent years as a mechanism to increase income taxes and cut social security benefits is also discussed.
