The Royal Canadian Mint is known for its innovative drive, and this first-ever hat-shaped coin is yet another feather in its cap. This remarkable coin honors a special anniversary. 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of when the Royal Northwest Mounted police was renamed the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. This was also when the “Mounties” took on federal policing responsibilities. Most notably, this coin is the first time brown-gold plating has ever been used on a coin, and you can see it on the bronze band of the hat. Additionally, the special frosting of the coin makes the gold plating appear even more similar to the material of the actual Mounty hat.

The obverse of the Royal Canadian Mint silver coin features the effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by inscriptions.

The reverse of the coin displays the design of a traditional Mounty hat that is a part of the uniform. This side also shows the brown-gold plating over the bronze belt.
