Desde que TUNACONS inició la investigación de materiales degradables para elaborar sus plantados en 2017, se han probado diferentes materiales de origen vegetal con la finalidad de reducir a mínimo el uso de materiales sintéticos.
TUNACONS desarrolló Investigación cientifica con la carrera de ingenieria textil de la universidad tecnica del Norte en Ibarra Ecuador para probar tratamientos organicos que ayuden a reforzar la durabilidad del plantado en el ambiente salino que hasta el momento se promedia una duración de 72 días.


Tunacons tambien esta trabajando en conjunto con la Comisión Interamericana del atún tropical en un proyecto piloto para analizar la eficacia de los plantados ecologicos versus los tradicionales. Los datos recibidos hasta el momento proyectan una captura similar en toneladas de pesca pero con una degradación completa en relación a los plantados tradicionales de origen sintético, es importante mencionar que su uso va a generar cambios en las estrategias de pesca de la flota, por lo que se deben tomar en cuenta en las futuras medidas para la conservacion de atunes tropicales.

Since 2017, TUNACONS began its investigation of degradable materials to make its FADs, different materials of vegetable origin have been tested in order to minimize the use of synthetic materials.


There are 2 key programs that tunacons develops.
1) Carry out scientific research with the textile engineering career of the Northern Technical University in Ibarra Ecuador to test organic treatments that help reinforce the durability of the FAD in the saline environment that so far has averaged a duration of 3 to 4 months.


2) TUNACONS works together with the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission on a pilot project to analyze the effectiveness of organic versus traditional FADs. The data received project a similar catch in tons of fish and complete degradation in relation to traditional FADs of synthetic origin.
