The UK's only LEGO® Brick Wetland Safari comes back to Llanelli Wetland Centre this summer!

Featuring 15 GIANT models, including 2 NEW characters never before seen at Llanelli, this exciting trail will make you look at our real-life wetland superstars in a whole new light.

Prevailing favourites including Katie the Kingfisher, Lottie the Otter, Fred the Frog and Sam the Short-eared Owl return for the adventure, now joined by the staggeringly intricate Percy the Pelican and Camille the Curlew.

To take part, all you have to do is pick up a trail leaflet when you arrive and head outside to explore our wetlands, woodlands and exhibits to learn more about the iconic species these large-scale models represent.

Built to raise awareness of the challenges facing wetlands and the creatures that depend on them to survive, our unique LEGO® models can be found alongside their living counterparts - with some characters twelve times the size of the real deal.

Visiting Llanelli Wetland Centre for the first time, handsome pelican Percy was lovingly built from almost 35,000 LEGO® bricks, taking over 200 hundred hours to make. He’s a striking bird, and we know our visitors are going to be very excited to see him and find out more about his species.

Also making her first venture to the wetlands of Wales is Camille the Curlew. The eerie call of the curlew was once a common sound in the UK, but it has become much rarer in recent years, with curlew numbers dropping by over 65% since the 1970s.

Llanelli Wetland Centre Manager Jo Jones said:
“We know from our previous Lego events that people of all ages love to see these giant models out amongst the real animals.

The safari is a fun way to highlight some of the wetland species that the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) has worked hard to save, such as the iconic Hawaiian goose and incredible spoon-billed sandpiper.

The new addition – Camille the Curlew – also helps tell a key conservation story about our role in the ongoing Eurasian curlew recovery project, which is working to reverse the drastic decline of this enigmatic wading bird.
We hope that as well as being a great family day out, the trail’s wetland conservation messages will gently engage a young audience who will one day become adults that care deeply about wetlands and wildlife and want to protect them for years to come.”

The LEGO® Brick Wetland Safari runs from Saturday 16 July – Sunday 4 September. The trail is included in admission and centre opening times are 9:30am-5.00pm, with last entry one hour before closing.
