Kaer Morhen Valley is a steep-sided, cold, and austere gorge located in the Northern Blue Mountains, not far from the lands of Kaedwen. Isolated by wild nature and treacherous paths, it has for centuries been the hidden stronghold of the School of the Wolf, a now nearly extinct witcher brotherhood.

The only known path to it is Devil's Maw Gorge, a perilous passage guarded by the mountain itself. This territory is home to very few living beings: a few deer, wolves... and the occasional wandering specter.

At the heart of the valley stands Kaer Morhen, literally "Old Sea Kaer" in the ancient language, a massive fortress now partially in ruins. Once, it echoed with the cries of apprentice witchers and the hammers of master blacksmiths. It was here that children taken from (or "entrusted") to the Brotherhood underwent the terrible Trials of the Herbs, a series of alchemical mutations intended to transform them into witchers.

But the golden age is over.
