Join me in solving the mystery behind this beautiful, antique berry bowl that even had Google Lens questioning who manufactured it! With a little help via the Early American Pressed Glass Society, as well as Carnival Glass Worldwide, we discover this berry or console bowl is a fine example of Imperial Glass Classic Carnival Glass issued in Rubigold (aka Marigold) and dates to circa 1911, with a possible production date range of 1908 through the late 1920s. By 1930, Carnival Glass had fallen out of favor and was no longer in production at Imperial, but when an interest in Carnival Glass resurfaced during the late 1950s through early 1960s, Imperial began reissuing Contemporary Carnival Glass in both old and new molds beginning in 1962, before joining forces with Lenox in 1973. To distinguish these newer, reissued Contemporary Carnival Glass pieces from Imperial’s original Classic Carnival Glass, look for the makers mark (or lack thereof): 1962-1972 pieces of Imperial Carnival Glass will be marked with an IG, while 1973 and after productions will contain the mark LIG denoting the inclusion of Lenox to the brand. Early, original pieces of Imperial Classic Carnival Glass are unmarked, and when you find those, you know have an original piece dating anywhere from 1908 through the late 1920s.
