JNU has rusticated four office bearers of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) and a former union president for two semesters. The university administration alleged that they vandalized property during a protest against the installation of facial recognition cameras on campus last year.

The affected students include JNUSU President Dhananjay, Vice President Avijit Ghosh, General Secretary Sneha Aggarwal, Joint Secretary M. Aiswarya, and former JNUSU President Sohan Kumar. The rustication orders were issued by JNU's Chief Proctor on charges of indiscipline and vandalism.

The students' union has strongly condemned the decision, calling it a "one-sided and politically motivated action." They argue that the university failed to conduct a proper inquiry and denied them the opportunity to present their side. The JNUSU claims the timing of the rustication is suspicious, as the union was preparing to launch a campaign against the stay on the implementation of the UGC Equity Regulations 2026.
