Once you have unpacked your Phototron™, you will notice a series of items that came inside the packaging. The first is the Phototron™ unit itself, and the other items consist of germination cups, labels, a green labeled bottle of CiV 75 BASE FORMULA and red labeled bottle of CV 65 CONTINUOUS FEED FORMULA, and two bags of Sphagnum moss.

What is Sphagnum moss? Well Sphagnum moss is a type of moss that is usually found in bogs or marches and has proven to be a fantastic plant cultivator due to it's amazing capability to retain water and it's low pH levels.

The Sphagnum is what you will be using as soil in which to plant.
The first thing you are going to want to do is treat this Sphagnum moss with the BASE FORMULA. The BASE FORMULA is in the GREEN BOTTLE and it's contents are powdered. Now, before you get going however, you will need to purchase eight additional items: 1 pair of rubber gloves, some kitchen trash bags, and 6 one gallon jugs of DISTILLED WATER.

To treat the Sphagnum moss, do the following:

• First empty both bags of the Sphagnum moss into a tall kitchen trash bag and mix throughly together.

• Next, pour the contents of the green labeled, powdered CiV75 BASE FORMULA into one of the one-gallon jugs of DISTILLED WATER, cover and shake the jug vigorously. Please note, you can also use what is called REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER with the Phototron™. You can make your own REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER, also known as "R.O. WATER", by using our "Reverse Osmosis" kit which is available in our ACCESSORY CATALOG. R.O. WATER removes more than 95% of chlorine, hardness from calcium and magnesium, as well as excessive minerals and all other contaminants. If you choose to purchase your own R.O. WATER, make sure that the manufacturer has not added SALT back into this water as this will have an adverse effect on your plants.

• Next, pour this entire jug of water with the mixed nutrient solution into the trash bag containing the Sphagnum.

• Mix all of the nutrient base solution with the Sphagnum in the bag thoroughly with your hands. Make sure you are
wearing your rubber gloves as this base formula will dry the skin. The Sphagnum should absorb all of the water
added to it.

• Now, place your entire prepared soil medium into the liner of the Phototron™, totally emptying the bag. Make sure
the entire base of the Phototron™ is covered with an even layer of the Sphagnum.
