It's important when buying a home to understand what an escrow deposit, or earnest money deposit is. Basically an escrow or earnest money deposit is/are funds you give to a seller or their agent to hold in "escrow" to show you are serious in buying the home. Buyer's have multiple ways to receive their escrow check back but if they do violate the contract can lose their deposit. It's also important to know that escrow disputes can have your money stuck in limbo for a long time as escrow agents (the person holding the funds) can only release the funds by agreement of both parties or court order.
