This duck hunt took place on January 23, 2025 during the 2024–2025 Louisiana Duck Hunting Season — right after a historic snowstorm shut the entire state down.

Louisiana experienced record snow totals this January, forcing road closures statewide. As soon as the agencies opened the roads back up, me and my buddy Darren (Lil Darren) wasted no time getting back to his lease to take advantage of the conditions.

Our goal was a two-man limit of straight wigeon, but Mother Nature had her own plans. Even without a full wigeon limit, the action did not disappoint. We ended the hunt with a solid mixed bag of wigeon, gadwall, and one female ringneck to close out an unforgettable snowstorm duck hunt in Louisiana.

Late-season ducks, frozen marsh conditions, and birds moving after a rare southern snow — this is one of those hunts we’ll be talking about for a long time.
