The 24-hours of The Nürburgring is perhaps the most legendary sports car races in the world only surpassed by the 24-hours of Le Mans. The track was originally built in from 1925 to 1927. The debut race was held on the 18th of June 1927 and was won by Rudolf Caracciola in his compressor Mercedes.

At the inaugural race, the track consisted of both the Nordschleife and the Sudschleife. This meant the track had more than 180 corners. An English journalist is quoted for stating that: “it seemed as if a reeling, drunken giant had been sent out to determine the route”.

A 24-hour race on the ring is the toughest challenge any endurance racing driver can face. A puncture or damage on the Grand Prix circuit will have you facing a 20+ kilometre drive around the track before you can pit for repairs or a new tires. Most of the track is narrow with slim to no run-off areas, which means any mistake is likely to leave you with severe body damage. This is not a much a race against your competitors as it is a race against yourself and the track. Survive for 24 hours without major incidents, and you are likely to find yourself in a podium spot!
