Electric telehandler for farms: Faresin 6.26 full electric

Faresin present their all electric, farm-ready telehandler even before some well known competitors. Loading manure, we had it lift some heavy bucket loads to see how it coped.

Faresin overtake some of their renowned competition and present the fully electric telehandler 6.26 ( 6 meters boom reach and 2.6 tons).
The slim Italian is looking for jobs around farms, amongst other areas. So we had it work up a sweat loading manure. Sometimes, it doesn’t feel like work when you operate it. There is no diesel engine that will let you know through noise just how hard at work it currently is.

Two electric motors and a hydraulics pump replace the 70 horse power Yanmar diesel from the standard 6 point 2 6. The electric motors come with 15 kW of power for driving, and 10 for lifting. Loading heavy manure, we hit their limits.

When you want to simultaneously move, lift and extend a full bucket of manure, the Faresin will ask for some patience.
Even though the electric motors are smaller, Faresin haven’t ended up saving space as compared to the standard 6.26. They use same frame of the diesel version for more economies of scale. While the motors are placed centrally in the machine, space under the bonnet is now taken up by the battery, the charging system as well as a battery cooler.

Whether or not a concept like this adds up, depends mostly on the capacity of the battery. On our test machine, Faresin had fitted the bigger, 400 amp hour version. The standard version comes with 300 amp hours. Running at 80 volts, it has a charging capacity of 24 kilowatt hours. Both versions are based on lithium ions, so you can plug them in to charge whenever you want. That even works with a standard wall socket. If you do that, the loader will take 15 hours for a full charge, say Faresin with standard on board charger, but after first use from costumer they added, as option, an on board fast charger at 400V that can charge the battery in 4 hours .

It can then work four hours nonstop or, as common on farms, eight hours intermittently.
Once we had the bucket in the air, we had lots of praise and minor criticism for the electric handler. It will provide great visibility of your tool through the roof, so long as the windscreen is clean. During our test, we kept dropping manure onto it, which made us miss some decisive centimeters on the wipers.

The telehandler makes up for that with an impressive breakaway force. It will lift 3.8 tons from the ground, which makes working with it a treat.
Our conclusion: Yes, Faresin will have to work on some improvements on their all-new machine. But they have proven that batteries have more of a place in farm telehandlers than diesel engines. And that is a revolution in itself.
