The government has "finally" released the news media bargaining code which requires tech giants to pay traditional media for their content, Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says.

Communications Minister Paul Fletcher and Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced the media code earlier on Tuesday.

The proposed laws will go to parliament on Wednesday.

Mr Clennell said the treasurer, however, didn’t release any documents or details during the announcement.

“A way to avoid questions on the detail as he did with the retirement incomes review recently.”
