Описание к видео WiCyS Australia Presents: Research-Led Teaching Approach: a Career Pathway

The Defence, industry and public sectors expect higher education institutions to produce quality graduates equipped to meet the high demand for cybersecurity professionals. Effective design of Master level programs and course curricula in cybersecurity poses major challenges due to the rapid rate of change. In today’s highly interconnected world, students and potential employers expect that any cybersecurity coursework curriculum will be updated with novel, research-led solutions to cover rapidly evolving IT technologies in both hardware and software systems, as well as their secure usage by humans.

Cybersecurity educators should look at their future teaching and research strategies holistically and consider how they can develop approaches that can overcome such challenges. The key is to focus not only on students’ discipline-specific knowledge and reflective learning, but also on how we can conceptualise the entire education ecosystem to propagate research-led teaching. Only then will we be giving students the diverse competencies they need to thrive in the future workforce.

Invited to this panel session are academics, industry professionals and former UNSW Canberra Master students, all of whom have experiences of how research-led teaching has impacted their careers. This session will thus consider how universities can:
Design cybersecurity courses to engage the full diversity of students
Explore the impact of research-led teaching on learning,
Foster development of analytical skills and a sense of purpose that extends beyond a specific Masters program; and
Prioritise students’ development of new skills suited to resilient and sustainable workforces.
