Tour of the Art and Architecture of Kingswood School Cranbrook

Описание к видео Tour of the Art and Architecture of Kingswood School Cranbrook

This tour of the Kingswood Campus of Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (the historic Kingswood School for Girls) was made by curator Kevin Adkisson, Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research, for the Graduating Class of 2020.

Kingswood opened in September, 1931, through the generosity of George and Ellen Booth. The school was designed by Finnish-American architect Eliel Saarinen with assistance from his wife Loja Saarinen (rugs and curtains from her weaving workshop, Studio Loja Saarinen), daughter Pipsan Saarinen Swanson (color and decorative schemes), and son Eero Saarinen (furniture and sculpture). A more detailed inventory of artists featured in this video can be found at center.cranbrook.edu and historic images are available at https://cdm9024.contentdm.oclc.org/.

Architectural tours of Kingswood are not regularly available, but please contact us at [email protected] to inquire about special tours or events at Cranbrook. Regular tours are available of Cranbrook House, Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum, Saarinen House, and the Frank Lloyd Wright-design Smith House.
