Video-Podcast: "Bau des Fährschiffes KARL CARSTENS für die Deutsche Bundesbahn (1986)"

Heute geht es um die Entwicklung und den Bau der Fähre KARL CARSTENS für die Deutsche Bundesbahn (1986).

1983 wurde der Wunsch der Bundesbahndirektion Hamburg für den Neubau eines Eisenbahnfährschiffes für die Vogelfluglinie zwischen Puttgarden-Rödby dem Vorstand der Deutschen Bundesbahn in Frankfurt am Main vorgetragen. Noch im gleichen Monat entsprach die Leitung diesem Antrag und erteilte einen Planungsauftrag. Innerhalb der Bundesbahndirektion Hamburg wurde eine Projektgruppe „Fährschiffneubau“ ins Leben gerufen, dessen Leiter der Geschäftsführer der Fährbetriebe Vogelfluglinie wurde.

In Zusammenarbeit mit der Werft Nobiskrug in Rendsburg, die als Ingenieur-Büro tätig wurde, erarbeitete die Projektgruppe der Deutschen Bundesbahn einen Maßnahmenkatalog, der in den Bau der Eisenbahnfähre einfließen sollte. Hinzu kamen die im Laufe der Jahre gemachten positiven Erfahrungswerte, die im Trajektverkehr Vogelfluglinie ermittelt wurden.
