Year 2122. The Nostromo space tug, owned by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, transports cargo to Earth — an enrichment complex designed to process twenty million tons of ore. Due to the considerable duration of the flight, the crew is immersed in suspended animation, the ship is driven by autopilot. When the Nostromo automation wakes up the ship's crew, the crew initially believes that the flight is over and the ship is in the Solar System. However, the team soon learns that "Nostromo" is located in the ζ-2 (Zeta Grid) constellation of the Grid near the unexplored planet LV-426. The computer of the ship "Mother" interrupted the flight, having detected a constantly repeating radio signal of unknown, but probably intelligent origin coming from this planet - presumably an SOS signal. The team, in accordance with the contract of the corporation, is obliged to find and investigate the source of the signal.
