In today's intermediate excel tutorial, I’ll explain an easy yet crucial feature of excel. I’ll be talking about hiding and locking certain cells in excel using the built-in excel feature. I’ll show you how you can lock certain cells from editing, keeping other cells unlocked or editable also maintaining the value of those cells hidden.
It doesn’t matter if you want to hide & lock a single cell, multiple cells, adjacent cells or even distant cells. It’s all about selection. You can select specific cells that you want to lock & hide and then follow the procedure and excel will lock and hide those cells and make the sheet visible and editable. You can even password protect the sheet or even use basic protection without any password.

Now I’m sure you know a lot about locking cells in excel. Let’s follow the procedure below to learn how to lock and hide cells in Excel.
Step 1: Select the Cell or Range of the cells that you need to hide and lock
Step 2: Right-click and click on format cells.
Step 3: Click on Custom and now remove General and write three semicolons. ;;;
Step 4: Click on and done. Cell values are now partially hidden
Step 5: Select the entire worksheet by pressing CTRL+A.
Step 6: Right-click and select format cell.
Step 7: Select protection and make sure locked and Hidden checkboxes are unmarked.
Step 8: Select the Cell or Range of the cells that you need to hide and lock.
Step 9: Right-click and click on format cells.
Step 10: Select protection and make sure locked and Hidden checkboxes are marked.
Step 11: Click on the review tab and click on Protect Sheet
Step 12: Enter Password twice and done
Now your selected cells are hidden and locked.
