Since this channel covers both adventure stories and children's literature, I think it's reasonable to therefore include stories of the petty, silly adventures of idle adults (they often seem to be children's stories written only for grown-ups). And what better example of this kind of story is there than Three Men in a Boat?

Jerome K. Jerome's tale tells of three idle gentlemen who decide to take a holiday going down the Thames in a boat, accompanied by their dog, Montmorency. It's a perfect example of the English mocking the English. It's also been adapted for radio many, many times - I have at least four versions. This was the first one I heard, an abridged reading expertly performed by Hugh Laurie. It was actually released as part of the Talking Classics audiobook range in the mid-1990s, but was subsequently broadcast (in even more abridged form) on Radio 4. This is the original Talking Classics version, running to about 2hrs 20mins. Radio 4 followed their broadcast up with a reading of the sequel, again by Hugh Laurie - and that ("Three Men on a Bummel") will be up on the channel in a couple of days.

I plan on uploading other versions of this story in the future...
