Epic Cheetah Chase: Ostriches Outrun the Hungry Cheetah

This thrilling footage was taken in 2022 in Kruger Nation Park by Jaycee Botha. It shows the fascinating blend of speed, agility, and elegance of Cheetahs. you will see how one Cheetah surprises and chases 8 ostriches. Unfortunately, the ostriches outsmarts the cheetah and he loses the race.

Cheetahs are the worlds fastest land animals with speeds reaching 100 - 110km/h. Unlike other big cats, cheetahs have semi-retractable claws that provide them extra grip while running at high speeds. Cheetahs are known for their black "tear marks" that run from their inner corners of their eyes down to the side of the mouth. These marks help reflect the sun's glare and focus their attention on their pray.

What's the story: " We were driving back to our camp when we came up on a large group of cars standing in the road. We knew that their was something special to be seen. We stopped the car and scanned the grasslands with our binoculars, that's when we spotted the cheetah laying in the grass about 100 meters from the car. We parked the car and watched for about 20min. We decided that we where going to leave the cheetah sighting since he was not going to stand up any time soon.

As we drove on we saw the 8 ostriches about 1km from were the cheetah was lying. The ostriches were moving in the direction of the cheetah with the wind coming from behind them. We knew their would not smell the cheetah so we decided to turn the car around and follow them.

It took about 10min for them to reach the cheetah, we looked everywhere but the cheetah was no were to be found. That when we realized that he saw the ostriches and and was lying flat in the grass. We knew something was going to happen and at that moment the cheetah jumped up and the race was on!"
