"Our research focuses on IVF and how repeated freeze-thaw cycles affect embryo survival.

During an IVF cycle, embryos are frozen and kept in storage while waiting for genetic testing results. When genetic testing fails to yield reliable results, embryos can undergo multiple rounds of testing and freezing.
Research has found that repeated genetic testing impacts live birth rates, but the specific impact of repeated freeze-thaw cycles hadn’t been fully explored before our study.
In a pre-clinical model, we found that embryos that underwent multiple freeze-thaw cycles had a lower chance of survival and implantation, and can lead to smaller, less healthy offspring. Our research is the first to show how harmful repeated freezing can be, and we hope it will help improve IVF practices to give families a better chance at having a healthy baby."
