Let’s Go! Hiking the Dewa Sanzan

Описание к видео Let’s Go! Hiking the Dewa Sanzan

The Dewa Sanzan (出羽三山) are a trio of sacred mountains located in Yamagata prefecture which consist of Haguro-san (羽黒山), Gassan (月山), and Yudono-san (湯殿山). By visiting the shrines located on these three mountains in this order, they represent birth, death and rebirth. If you love nature and Japanese culture and traditions, I highly recommend this unique experience in the Tohoku region of Japan.

Accessing the Dewa Sanzan can be via car or public transportation. If travelling by car, there are parking lots located right at the shrine for Haguro-san and Yudono-san and at Gassan, you can take the gondola most of the way up the mountain. For those who take public transit, there is a bus from Tsuruoka S-Mall (close to the station) which can take you to Haguro-san and Gassan. From Gassan, you can hike across the mountain down to the shrine at the bottom of Yudono-san where there is a bus back to Tsuruoka.

The Let's Go Series was produced to inspire my students to get outside and explore. The premise is that the majority of the dialogue is with basic English so that junior high school students learning English as a second language can follow along.
