In 1978, 18 years after it was introduced, "Nigeria We Hail Thee" ceased to be the National Anthem of Nigeria. Since then, we've had it peacefully replaced by "Arise O Compatriots." until the recently passed Senate's bill on the old anthem's reinstatement. (Later approved and signed into law as New Nigeria Anthem by President Tinubu on May 29, 2024).

Ever since Nigerians has there's being mixed feelings. Some says the lyrics truly fits the country's current situation. Some says why anthem when empowerment schemes can be done?

STANZA 1-
Nigeria, we hail thee,
Our own dear native land,
Though tribe and tongue may differ,
In brotherhood, we stand,
Nigerians all, and proud to serve
Our sovereign Motherland.

STANZA 2-
Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign,
In peace or battle honour’d,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.

O God of all creation,
Grant this our one request,
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed,
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed.
