In Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis, there are multiple stages that can be completed ridiculously fast by zipping from the start of the level to the end. In particular, I want to show you a zip that allows Sonic to beat Green Hill Zone Act 2 in 15 seconds (or faster if you're real good!).

The word "zip" is used to refer to a level wrap or a horizontal underflow glitch that essentially allows Sonic to... teleport from one end of the stage to another (in this case, from the beginning of the level to the end of the level). In other words, you can use this glitch to beat the level real fast.

Just after GHZ Act 2 starts, jump onto the rock past the bridge with the piranhas and hop off the short cliff to land in front of the first yellow spring.

From here, run to the left and do a short jump to get yourself just over the spikes, then hold right to hug the right side of the cliff as you descend. It may be best to tap the jump button just as Sonic reaches the slope in front of the spikes, but essentially your goal is to get over the spikes JUST BARELY and then hold RIGHT on the D-Pad so you can land on the enemy.

Hold jump as you bounce on the enemy to gain some height after you hit him, but let go of jump before you bounce too high. You don't want to land back on the platform, and you don't want to bounce high enough that you hit the spikes. You will want to bounce to the right to land just inside the wall, on top of the section that is normally breakable.

Once you land inside the wall, tap right and Sonic will begin to zip to the left, then the screen will scroll to the right. If you weren't in the right position, Sonic might die or land on the ground somewhere - this usually indicates you weren't in the right spot inside the wall, OR you held the D-Pad for too long when you tapped RIGHT.

But if you've gotten Sonic to disappear off screen, wait for the screen to start scrolling RIGHT, then begin to pause buffer by hitting START. It's not entirely necessary, but it will allow you to get this very specific timing correctly.

When the screen is scrolling to the RIGHT (very fast, mind you) you will need to hold LEFT on the D-Pad at a very specific moment. You'll want to hold LEFT as soon as that ladybug enemy robot thing is near the TOP MIDDLE of your screen, and it's much easier to time the input if you pause and unpause the game until he's in the right spot.

So once this ladybug-looking enemy is near the TOP MIDDLE of the screen, hold LEFT and unpause the game. Keep the LEFT arrow held until you hear Sonic roll into a spin, then begin to pause buffer again because you will want to hold RIGHT as soon as you see the next Sunflower appear in the middle of the screen.

When the sunflower is in the middle of the screen, hold RIGHT on the D-Pad and unpause the game (if you're using pause buffering, that is). If you did everything correctly, Sonic should roll to the end of Green Hill Zone Act 2.
