My experience of Manali trip.
Manali as a destination is not really expensive. If we divide your expense through out the trip into 3 major categories it can be:
Your Travel to and fro Manali
Stay and Food
Transportation in the city.

You can get really good options of Volvos on Redbus or other portals.

Manali offers a loads of cheap street food. From Parathas to Momos and Dosas, Manali has it all and its super cheap.

Manali: I'm planning a trip to Manali by myself. Anybody has got a good plan from their experience?
Ofcourse!! Manali as a destination is not really expensive. If we divide your expense through out the trip into 3 major categories it can be:

Your Travel to and fro Manali
Stay and Food
Transportation in the city.
Lets cover all the above points one by one and then I can give you my plan of preference how you can travel to and in Manali.

Your Travel to and fro Manali

Well if you are on a really low budget, the cheapest way to get there is via Himachal roadways. There charge a flat fees of around Rs. 600 to get you to Manali. All the frequent buses depart from ISBT Kashmere Gate.


Pro Tip: Don’t travel via Himachal roadways unless you are really down to pennies(I am down to penny all the time when I travel!!). You can get really good options of Volvos on Redbus or other portals. It will merely cost you 100–200 bucks extra and you will thank me!!

**By the way, traveling via Roadways is super fun sometimes, depending on the company of fellow travelers in the bus.

Stay

If you are on low budget or even if you are a purse full of money, stay at a hostel!! It will be a guaranteed experience. I am backpacking through Himachal for quite a while and Hostels are a bliss for solo and travelers on budget. Even if you are not, it will be one of its kind experience.


Pro Tip: You can also book a home stay. Trend of locals giving Bed to crash to travelers is really picking up in the country, but you need to make sure its safe and well reviewed first. Better still, go see and book. Faisla on the spot.

Food

Well, what can I say. You are in mountains, go find your maggie!! :)

Manali offers a loads of cheap street food. From Parathas to Momos and Dosas, Manali has it all and its super cheap.

Pro tip: Make sure the place is hygienic, it increases your chances not to spend your trip answering natures call multiple times a day(been there, done that!)

Transportation in the city

A lot of micro buses are running in Manali to and fro from the places of major interest. The fare is cheap. 20–25 bucks one side.

Pro Tip: I prefer to rent a scooter or a bike in Manali, saves a hell lot of time!! Gives me good instagram pictures and the required flexibility in the itinerary schedule. It cost 300–400 Rs a day.

Coming to the itinerary and Places of Interest(Distance given from the city centre):

Hadimba devi temple: walking distance 10–15 minutes.

Old Manali : 15 minutes from Hadimba devi Temple, it is a place famous for its river side cafes and hippie culture.

Manu temple: 15 minutes from Hadimba devi Temple

Ban Bihar : just 2 minutes walking distance

Tibetan Monastery : 5 minutes walking distance.all above places you don’t need any cab service

Nagger castles : 25km by bus.

Vashisth temple: 3.8 km from Manali. .

Jogni waterfalls: 1 hour track from Vashisth temple.

Solang Valley & Rohtang pass: 1.5 hours from the city on Bike

I would suggest anyone to cover, Manu temple, Hidimba temple ad old Manali on the first day.

You can plan a trek to Jogini waterfalls on the second day or alternatively you can plan a trip to Solang and Rohtang.
