Mount Yotei looms large over the Niseko area. It is otherwise known as the ‘Fuji of the North.’ This wasn’t a day that we were expecting to get to the peak and caldera. It had been really windy the day before and we were of the expectation that above the trees the snow would be wind affected. A descending Japanese group that they had stopped at the tree line because it was wind affected. We had started in bad visibility too and we could not see the summit.
But around midday the skies cleared and it was as if the only hole in the sky was right above us. It is not often that you have good skiing right off the summit of Yotei, But today was one of those days.
