The four-seater drophead is based on a rear-wheel-drive Mercedes model and features excellent heated seats, an air deflector, and a head heating system. The cabriolet market has been shrinking, with few brand-new examples available, as they are expensive to engineer and produce. Non-premium car makers have struggled in this segment, with models like Vauxhall's Cascada and Ford's Focus Coupé Cabriolet being discontinued. Mercedes has consolidated its efforts in the CLE Cabriolet, which is a larger version of the C-class and a more sporting alternative to the E-class. The car offers more legroom and shoulder room for rear passengers compared to its predecessor. The range includes rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models, with various engine options. The interior of the CLE Cabriolet resembles that of the smaller and cheaper C-class, with a landscape-format rectangular instrument binnacle and a portrait-mounted central touchscreen. The car features hybrid assistance, which reduces turbo lag, but the nine-speed automatic gearbox can be hesitant. The CLE Cabriolet has a special coating for the leather seats, reducing heat absorption when the car is parked in the sun. The starting price for the CLE 200 is £53,030.
