Описание к видео BUBBLEGUM CRASH! - ILLEGAL ARMY | Episode 01 (English Dub) | Full 1990s ANIME OVA HD

Fans of Mamoru Oshii's Patlabor, Macross and Ghost In The Shell cannot miss this seminal cyberpunk mecha anime with the legendary character designs by Kenichi Sonoda.

Bubblegum Crash! is a three-episode Original Video Animation (OVA) series and a direct sequel to the highly influential eight-episode OVA series Bubblegum Crisis (1987-1991). The story takes place one year after the original, in the neon-drenched, dystopian Megatokyo of 2034. The female mercenary group known as the Knight Sabers—Sylia Stingray, Priss Asagiri, Linna Yamazaki, and Nene Romanova—have ostensibly broken up, pursuing their own lives as things in the megacity seemed to have calmed. However, a series of high-tech bank robberies, murders, and unexpected "Boomer" (the series' term for advanced androids/cyborgs) malfunctions begin, all seemingly tied to the development of a powerful, advanced artificial intelligence. Sylia is forced to reassemble the team to investigate and confront a powerful, familiar enemy that threatens the fate of Megatokyo...

The production context for Bubblegum Crash is tumultuous and significant. It was produced by Artmic and Artland but represents a transitional and ultimately curtailed phase in the franchise. The original Bubblegum Crisis OVA run was cut short after 8 episodes due to disputes between the primary production companies and the music label, Youmex. Bubblegum Crash was an attempt to continue the story without Youmex's involvement, but ongoing litigation over the rights to characters and concepts led to the abrupt cancellation of Crash after only 3 episodes.

This context explains its brevity and its function as a relatively rushed, definitive conclusion to the original storyline universe, before the franchise was later rebooted with Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 (1998). It is a classic piece of late 80s/early 90s Japanese Cyberpunk OVA, characterized by high-quality, often detailed animation, a rock-and-roll soundtrack (though with different performers than the original Crisis), and a gritty yet stylish futuristic setting.

Cyberpunk is its most defining sub-genre. The entire Bubblegum saga features a high-tech, low-life setting: a dark, rainy, neon-lit megacity run by a powerful corporation (Genom), where the protagonists are outlaws operating in the fringes of society against oppressive high-tech forces. The themes of human/machine integration, social decay, and corporate control are classic cyberpunk staples, heavily influenced by works like Blade Runner.

It's a prime example of 1990s mecha anime, even if —unlike large, piloted Gundam-style mecha— the Knight Sabers use sleek, heavily armed exoskeleton power armor (Hard Suits) to fight. This focuses the action on high-speed, close-quarters combat utilizing the suits' abilities. And finally it's a great Girls with Guns (GwC) production. The primary protagonists are an all-female team who are highly proficient in combat and weaponry, often relying on their powered suits in action sequences. This specific stylistic sub-genre of action anime was very popular in the late 80s and early 90s.
