This is the coal cast version (6 others are in key locations in England France and Holland).

Van Gogh was in the Borinage from 1878 to 1880, first as a missionary and then as an artist.

The sculpture is in nature that Van Gogh loved, in the mining region, amongst the descendants of the hard working people for whom he felt and cared. The working people who suffered hardship and many disasters in the mines.

Van Gogh's work teaches us to feel deeply - about nature and about the suffering of each other.

It is an honour for me to have a sculpture in such an important place for the development of the work of Vincent Van Gogh.
