▪︎ (Ischnura aurora) Golden Dartlet in Pond Damsel Family (Coenagrionidae) found across Australia, Pacific Islands, East Asia & Southeast Asia.

A small apple Green damselfly with Black thoracic stripes & Blue tipped Yellow tail.

● Male
○ Eyes - Black half moon-like cap above, olive green to dark olive below, which fades to pale olive beneath. 2 azure blue spots are present behind eyes.
○ Thorax - Shining black with 2 pale grass green stripes; sides are light green & white below.
¤ Legs - Pale greenish white with a vertical stripe on femur, just above femur - tibia joint.
¤ Wings - Transparent.
¤ Wing spots - Wing spots are different in fore & hindwings, being rose-red on forewings & uniform pale grey on hindwings.
○ Abdomen - Bright reddish yellow. Upper parts of 2nd & 7th segments have narrow & broad black marks, respectively. A 3rd of length of 8th segment & full length of 9th segment are blue. Base color of 8th segment tergite is melanic black.

● Female
○ Eyes - Brown half moon-like cap above, green to pale green below.
○ Thorax - Shining black with 2 orange stripes, sides are pale green.
¤ Legs - Pale white with vertical black stripes on femur, just above femur - tibia joint.
○ Abdomen - A broad black stripe runs along upper side of abdomen. 8ht to 10th segments do not have azure blue markings.

Similar to dragonflies but are usually smaller & have slimmer bodies. Most species fold wings along body when at rest, dragonflies which hold wings flat & away from body. Damselflies have existed since Late Jurassic & are found on every continent except Antarctica.
