Horror Hailstorm Col de Porte Tony Martin & Cyclingsem Critérium du Dauphiné 2020.

What started as a beautiful cycling day for father and son changed into a few scary moments thanks to an unprecedented hail storm.
After passing the first riders on the Col de Porte during the 2nd stage of the Dauphine 2020, it started to rain. The rain quickly turned into hedges, so far nothing to worry about and there was still laughter. Spectacular images and moments, but the fun was quickly over.
The hailstones got bigger and the amount of hail from the sky became more and more. Riders meandered across the road, didn't know what to do, and looked for shelter. We saw Tony Martin swinging in and called him out so he could hide with us under the air cushion. Together under the air cushion it was still a nice experience until thick layers of ice and mud came down through the street. The smoothness and power of this current brought Tony down and together we had to make sure we got safe up the slope. We helped eachother up and took cover from the hail.
Tony asks for clothes and a cap for me and together we wait until everything is over.
The strong current has taken our coolbox down with a telephone and the key to our car.
Long story short, the car was towed to the city at the bottom of the mountain and the carcompany called a hotel for us where we could relax and spend the night. When we arrived at the hotel we mention that the entire Jumbo cycling team also spend the night here. The morning after, Tony visited us during breakfast and we were able to speak to all riders about this special experience.
We thank our family for the help from Nerderland, we thank the friendly agent who welcomed us in a warm car, the car company where we were helped very well and the management of the hotel who made every effort for us to catch.
After 2 nights our uncle arrived at the hotel with the spare key and we were able to drive for 2.5 hours to the rest of the family who were still at the campsite where we continued our unforgettable holiday
