LIRR in the late 1960s

"Out on the Island." To New Yorker's, that means Long Island. Other than inching along the expressways in stifling traffic, getting there means the Long Island Railroad. The commuter is "King" on the LIRR. From Penn Station in MAnhattan to Jamaica on the "Island" and beyond means a ride on the road's ubiquitous "Multiple Unit" trains, or "MU's." But, in decades past, it also meant diesel powered train - American Locomotive Works Diesel powered trains.
