Stella's troubles: Fast-tracking to a loveless marriage

Having introduced her boyfriend of 1 year to her parents in a traditional ceremony, Stella is faced with heart-wrenching news; he never did love her at all. And this news came with definite signs. He returns home late in the evening if he returns home at all. She feels lonely and deserted. Since the traditional function was greatly celebrated, she is torn between keeping up appearances and enduring the pain of a loveless union as it may put shame and embarrassment on her and her family; or breaking away from the situation, regardless.
