Thousands protest in Tel Aviv in Tel Aviv, urging Gaza captives deal

Thousands gathered in central Tel Aviv on September 14, 2024, demanding the Israeli government take action to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza for 11 months. The protests were fueled by the recent recovery of six hostages' bodies, which sparked outrage and grief across Israel.

Demonstrators included women dressed as hostages, walking barefoot with their hands and mouths bound. Many expressed frustration over the government's negotiations, which have stalled. Approximately 100 hostages remain in Gaza, with around a third believed to be dead.

Hamas militants kidnapped around 250 hostages during their October 7 attack, which killed 1,200 people. Efforts for a ceasefire that includes a hostage release deal have failed, as both sides blame each other for the impasse. Over 41,000 Palestinians have died in Israel's ongoing offensive in Gaza.
