Joining Philip Michael today is someone who became one of Wall Street’s youngest trader at 19 years old and is now a celebrity publicist and owner of her own business Tribe Builder Media, Danielle Sabrina. We talk all about Sabrina’s journey from Wall Street to celebrity publicist.

How did you become a Wall Street trader at 19 and what was that like?

Sabrina dropped out of high school and was a teen mom. Without a degree, she had to figure out a way to provide a life for her and her children. She was able to get into a brokerage firm and they gave her an opportunity to take her Series 7, which was at the time the third hardest exam in the United States. When she passed the exam, she was able to become a trader. She was able to pass when some of her fellow Ivy League test takers failed. This gave her a confidence boost that she still feels like she is riding.

How did the door of Wall Street open up to you?

Sabrina knew that if she was able to get her foot in the door at this brokerage firm, she could work her way up from there. She knew that no one would look at her resume since most positions required a college degree. She called the receptionist many times and asked if she could work at the firm in any capacity like the mail room. After a couple of months of asking the receptionist, Sabrina was going to give up. She called to thank the receptionist but the receptionist told her about an opening as a stockbroker. The receptionist told her if she could pass the Series 7 exam, she could work there even without a college degree.

What inspired you to make that jump from Wall Street to becoming a celebrity publicist?

Once Sabrina decided to leave financial services, she realized she was very intuitive whether it was with marketing or her own life. So she put herself out there as a business intuitive and got many clients through that. She would eventually work on the brands, build up the thought leadership marketing, thought leadership strategy, and get publicity for these clients. This was before influencers were a thing. Then the Co-Founder of the Huffington Post, Ariana Huffington asked Sabring to write for Huffington Post, which is how Sabrina moved into media. Then as she was developing these brands, it developed into a public relations (PR) agency.

What makes your PR agency different from others?

Sabrina is able to train those working around her with her business intuition and past work experiences. She was working on influencers before influencers were even a thing. She has also learned the public relations (PR) side of things like selling a TV show or getting a book deal. Sabrina believes that her team are well-versed in a variety of things and this is what makes them special.
