Imagine the cool morning air
by the Sea of Tiberias
Charcoal smoke mingling with the breeze
The disciples, worn and weary
Their fishing trip a disaster
They row toward shore
and there, Jesus waits for them
A fire burns
Bread and fish warm over the flames
and Jesus says,
"Come and have breakfast"
No rebuke, no lecture
Just an invitation—simple, gentle, nourishing
Isn’t this how the risen Lord meets us?
In the ordinary, in our hunger, in our exhaustion
He prepares a table for us before we’ve even confessed our weariness
Then, Jesus turns to Peter
The last time they sat by a fire, Peter denied him three times
Now, three times, Jesus asks, "Do you love me?"
Within and following each question
a gentle unravelling of shame
a rewinding of betrayal
Peter’s voice grows more urgent:
"Yes, Lord, you know I love you!"
And with each reply, Jesus entrusts him with his flock:
"Feed my lambs...tend my sheep."
And the locked door of Peter’s heart is opened
This is the mystery of divine love:
It doesn’t erase our past; but it transforms our future
Jesus does not demand perfection - only love
and from that love, flows love
Where in your life do you hear Jesus asking, "Do you love me?"
Where have you felt the sting of failure
only to find Him already preparing a way back for you?
Today he meets you - not with a record of wrongs
but with bread, with fire,
with a question that is really an invitation: "Follow me."
May we carry this truth into our day:
We are loved
We are restored
We are called
