To Red Roof Inns, Inc.:
My recent stay at the Red Roof Inn on Smokey Park Highway, West Asheville, NC was a disaster in comparison to the other stays I have had at Red Roof Inns. This is just about the only time I am actually requesting my money back since even when having shortcomings in my experiences with Red Roof properties, it has not been so bad that I have felt a full refund was warranted. This is especially true since I ended up paying about twice as much as I usually did for the same Superior King Room as usual.

My stay there was checking in on November 13, 2024 and checking out on November 15, 2024. Upon check in around 3 pm, I entered the Superior King room and immediately noticed there was no office chair for the desk. I went back down to the lobby to let staff know, and the clerk took me to another room to take that chair out and I wheeled it back to the room myself. That’s when I noticed that both the refrigerator and microwave were missing. I went back down to the lobby to let them know that the microwave and refrigerator were both missing, and I was assured that they would get both to my room as soon as possible. When I returned an hour and a half later from the gym, there was still no refrigerator or microwave in the room, so I went back to the lobby to check on things. I was again assured they would get to it as soon as they could but there were no other Superior King rooms available for me to move to.

No one came that night, and I had to make multiple trips to the communal microwave in the room with the ice and vending machines just to heat up my dinner. This was two flights of stairs walk each way in 40ish degree weather. That night I also discovered that half of the showerhead was missing so only a stream of water like that from a hose was coming out. The hair dryer was also missing as well as the usual mirror behind the desk. These are items that weren’t immediately apparent to me since I didn’t need them right away. I do have pictures available upon request.
On my way to my business appointments around 7:30 a.m., I first stopped at the lobby to check on when I could expect a microwave and refrigerator, and to report the other missing items from the room. I spoke to the clerk Caroline there, and she informed me that she would report the items to the manager when they arrived but that I could speak to the owner between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. when they were expected to arrive. I told her that was not possible because I had to get to work.
When I returned that evening after 4 p.m., I entered the room and nothing had been replaced, and at this point the food I brought with me was spoiled. There was still no microwave. There was still no refrigerator. There was still no shower head. And there was still no hair dryer or mirror behind the desk. I went back down and spoke to the same person I assumed was a manager from the evening before and asked about all of these items, and he told me that no refrigerator was available, but he would get right on having a microwave moved to my room and have the facilities person handle the shower head. Again, nothing was done that evening, and I had to check out the next morning.
I have been coming to this exact location for 2, or occasionally 3, nights per month, for 10-11 months per year, for about 15 years. When clients, friends, and family asked why I always stayed at that particular Red Roof Inn, I said it was because they always took care of me. This is the first time I felt I wasn’t being taken care of, and I have decided to go elsewhere from now on. I am requesting a refund for my stay during this particular trip on November 13-15, 2024, and I will then consider staying instead with the location in Hendersonville, NC for these monthly business trips.
Please respond to this. I would prefer this matter to simply be settled by Red Roof refunding my money and without involving other parties. Please know in advance that responding that this is an "independently owned location" and I should address the issues directly with them is not an acceptable response.
