Uveitis is inflammation of the middle layer of the eye. It can be Anterior uveitis which causes pain and redness of the eye with decrease in vision.

It can also affect the Posterior uvea and may be painless and more serious. Uveitis may be associated with some other diseases of the body and needs to be investigated by special blood tests when required.

The treatment needs to be started early under the supervision of Retina and Uvea specialists to save and improve the vision. Most often the treatment is with the use of drops or tablets.It may sometimes need steroids tablets or other immunosuppressive treatments, intravitreal injection of steroids like Ozurdex may be needed in some cases, vitrectomy surgery can also be done for some cases with Uveitis.
