Heat treatment is a process of heating and cooling a metal, to achieve a desired set of physical and mechanical properties.

The process of heat treatment is carried out, to change the grain size, modify the structure of the metal, and relieve the stresses.

It also helps to improve machinability, magnetic and electrical properties, wear, heat, and corrosion resistance.

The three stages of heat treatment are Heating, soaking, and cooling.

The different types of heat treatment processes in metallurgy are:

Annealing,

Normalizing,

Hardening,

Tempering,

Surface Hardening ( carburizing, nitriding, cyaniding, flame hardening, etc)
