Continuing a ritual that I started almost 30 years ago, I spend the first week of the year, playing MoneyBall. Put simply, I download the raw data (market and accounting) on all publicly traded companies and then slice and dice the data hoping to understand investor and company behavior. In this session, I describe this year's data universe of 46,579 publicly traded firms, explain my rationale for the data analysis (and no.. It's not going to make me any money) and then provide a shot description of the variables that I measure (and how I measure them).
