Obstructive sleep apnea is a common condition, in which the airway narrows or closes during sleep, causing breathing interruptions. It can also lead to more serious symptoms like extreme fatigue, high-blood pressure, heart problems and stroke. A potential solution: an implantable nerve stimulation device called Inspire.
Dr. David Chang is an ear, nose and throat surgeon for University of Missouri Health Care. He implanted the pacemaker-sized device in Teresa Woody's chest during an outpatient procedure in 2020.
